Aftercare

Aftercare instructions will vary from artist to artist, so be sure to ask your artist how they would prefer you care for your tattoo, if they haven't already gone over it with you.

  • If your tattoo was wrapped before you left the shop, make sure you remove and dispose of it as soon as you get home.

  • ALWAYS wash your hands before touching your fresh tattoo. If your hands are not clean before caring for your tattoo, you will contaminate your aftercare and your tattoo which could lead to an infection.

  • With warm, soapy water (we usually recommend getting unscented anti-bacterial foaming handsoap) gently wash the tattoo with your hand, then rinse it off and gently pat it dry. Do this twice a day, or anytime your tattoo has gotten dirty.

  • Apply a small amount of Redemption Tattoo Aftercare to your tattoo and gently rub it in until the entire tattoo is moisturized. You do not need much, you only need to put on enough to make sure the tattoo is not dry, and nothing more than that. Do this 2-4 times a day, or as needed if it gets wiped off on your clothes or something else.

  • Repeat this each day until your tattoo has stopped peeling and scabbing and feels like normal skin again.

  • We usually do not recommend using anything other than Redemption, but if there is something else you prefer to use, please make sure you run it by your artist first.

  • We also recommend staying away from things like Vaseline, Neosporin, Aquaphor, or any lotions. These can clog your pores or cause other issues, and cause your tattoo to heal poorly.

  • Until your tattoo is completely healed, there are certain things you cannot do. No direct sunlight, and no swimming (a healing tattoo should not be submerged in water, so no swimming pools, hot tubs, bathtubs, ect.).

  • Do not pick at your tattoo or peel anything off, this could lead to the ink falling out.

  • Avoid getting your tattoo dirty when you can (stay away from gardening, pets, working out, etc.) but if it does get dirty, just make sure you clean it as soon as you can.

  • Once your tattoo is healed, it is recommended that you keep it out of the sun as much as possible, and wear sunscreen when you can't.

In general, try to use common sense. If you aren't sure about something or have any questions, ask your tattoo artist, not your friends.
