Aftercare

BioSalve_Posters_18x24_Green copy.jpg

BIOSALVE is the offical tattoo aftercare created and provided by Rapture Tattoo Emporium

BioSalve was created in 2022 in collaboration with Honey Bee Friendly. Our team created, tested, and perfected the exact tattoo lubricant and aftercare we were looking for. We haven't reinvented the wheel, but rather created the best version of it we could.

BioSalve is small batch, locally made, and organic.

It is the only aftercare we recommend to our clients, and it can be purchased at both of our locations.

  • If your tattoo is wrapped or bandaged, remove the wrap when you get home and dispose of it properly. Clean the tattoo shortly after your appointment.

  • Wash it with your hand, not a loofah or a washcloth, using a mild, unscented, antibacterial soap. Let the water run over the tattoo to rinse it, not hitting it directly. Pat dry. *DO NOT submerge your tattoo in water while it heals, baths included*

  • With clean hands, apply a small amount of BioSalveTM to the tattoo and massage it fully into the skin until it is completely absorbed. Use only a small amount your skin should feel conditioned, not coated. A dry hand should glide over the area without picking up excess, and it shouldn’t feel slick or heavy. Work it in thoroughly to keep the skin nourished while preventing buildup that can trap dirt and affect healing it is, after all, an open wound.

  • Reapply BioSalve whenever the tattoo feels like it’s dry and needs it.

  • During healing, keep your tattoo out of direct sun exposure. Fresh tattoos are especially vulnerable to UV damage, which can fade pigment and disrupt healing. When possible, protect the area with clothing, shade, and thoughtful timing outdoors. Once fully healed, you may choose sun protection methods that align with your personal skin care preferences.

  • As your tattoo heals, the skin will naturally shed dead cells and excess pigment. Peeling is normal. *DO NOT* pick or pull at flaking skin, even in the shower when it feels loose. Allow the skin to release naturally to prevent patchiness (referred to as a “holiday”) in the final result.

  • Keep it clean. Keep it lightly moisturized. Keep it out of direct sun. Let it peel naturally

  • Always defer to your artist with any concerns or unexpected reactions.

Aftercare instructions will vary from artist to artist, so be sure to ask your artist how they would prefer you care for your tattoo, if they haven't already gone over it with you.
